The key reason behind the use of honey along with its counterparts such as propolis was motivated by my own acne. Being overwhelmed by the the plethora of skin care products available on the market I decided to go back to basics. Many products I looked at had an overwhelming list of ingredients, all of which were composed of chemicals or were ingredients I had never even heard of before. I have never underestimated the power of Mother Nature and its ability to heal, and so, I delved deeper into what the earth had to offer.
Propolis is a powerful natural protector made by bees from plant resins. Bees use Propolis to protect and sterilise the beehive, and in turn this same substance has a similar effect on the skin acting as a protective barrier through its antibacterial, antimicrobial properties. This is purposefully used throughout the ‘Back to Basics’ range with the intent to provide a healing barrier for open wounds from acne or skin irritation. Along side this it will aid with ant-inflammation, preventing and calming redness and swelling irritated skin.
Considering that the skin is the bodies largest organ, it is essential that it is nurtured and protected delicately. Praised for its role as an antioxidant power house, the high concentration of flavonoids in propolis act as a powerful antioxidant. Propolis has the ability to create a barrier against active free radicals, which in turn will provide the skin with increased elasticity, preventing cellular ageing and skin degradation.
To add to its famed list of abundant healing mechanisms, propolis also harbours a compound called pinocembrin. This is a flavonoid that acts as an anti-fungal shielding you from potential infection. Any open skin, is treated as a wound throughout the Honey skin care range. We aim to be able to not only heal and nurture the skin through the use of natural and kind ingredients but to respect the bodies natural ability to heal itself.
Your body is a lot more capable of taking care of itself than you may think!
