Volume 12. Should I Be Using A Face Oil?
Put simply, the answer is almost always yes! Face oils work extremely well in helping the skin maintain moisture while boosting your skin with nutrients, antioxidants and hydration.
Oils that are lightweight and non-comedogenic such as our recovery oil, work well with so many different skin types because they resemble the skin’s own oils, thus allowing for optimal absorption. This means that you won’t be left with a thick greasy layer sitting on top of your skin. Furthermore, oil is hydrophobic! Including the oils that your own face naturally produces. Substances that are hydrophobic keep water from escaping which in turn works to lock in moisture and keep your skin hydrated.
For people with dry skin, maintaining adequate hydration can seem impossible. However, keeping your skin plump is really a matter of appropriate water balance. A way to keep this balance in check is by utilising a good quality oil which will help hold in water and prevent the environment from stripping water out.
"But I have oily skin!" - we hear you cry. The most common misconception about oils is that people with acne and oilier skin types should bypass oils all together. That’s why we created an oil that actually works to regulate excess sebum (oil) production while restoring the skin’s barrier. Ingredients such as jojoba oil, rose-hip oil, and grape-seed oil which have been incorporated into our formula work wonders for this.
So how can you incorporate your face oil into your daily skin routine?
- Apply 2-3 drops on to clean skin after you have cleansed and exfoliated so that your skin can absorb maximum nutrients.
- You can incorporate 2-3 drops of your face oil into your current moisturiser for added nutrients, hydration and glow.
- Add 2-3 drops into your foundation for optimal moisture if your skin is prone to being dry.
- Use a gua sha, massage tool or your fingers to massage the oil into your skin. This will allow increased blood flow and circulation, encourage lymphatic drainage and release any tension in the face or décolletage.
